Gabrielle Cadenhead

Biography

Gabrielle Cadenhead is a writer and composer based in Sydney and the Hunter Valley, studying at Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the University of Sydney. Her music is inspired by literature, social justice and the natural world, and spans a wide variety of soundworlds. Her works have been performed by Newcastle Youth Orchestra, Sydney Youth Orchestras’ Symphonic Wind Orchestra and Sydney Chamber Opera musicians.

She Stands, for voice and electronics.

She Stands is a duet between spoken word and electronic soundscape based on an original, feminist poem of the same name. The soundscape is constructed from unconventional harp sounds – an instrument traditionally considered “feminine” – obscuring and subverting this projected “femininity”.
