Hana Zreikat

Biography

Hana Zreikat graduated from the Melbourne Conservatorium in 2012. She has strong background in music theatre, taking roles of singing and direction. In 2013 she was Music and Choral Director for BLOC’s junior production of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, and in 2014 was performance instructor at the Ballarat Centre of Music and the Arts, and Music Director for You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. Zreikat founded vocal a cappella quartet Avina in 2005, and her composition achivements include the 2012 Esther Rofe Scholarship, second place in the 2007 Chamber Strings of Melbourne Young Composer of the Year competition, and a public performance by ANAM of her piece Levitas for brass ensemble at Federation Square. In 2014 the Ballarat Symphony Orchestra performed her Piano Concerto, and 2015 saw a commission from the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery Women’s Association for a concert reflecting on World War 1.

Levitas, for brass quintet.

Levitas was written with the aim of inspiring and uplifting its audience. It’s themes and harmonies are easily accessible to a wide range of listeners, and it was a thrill as well as a challenge to infuse this piece with enthusiasm and zest for life.

Only a World Away, for children’s choir.

Only a World Away is a simple children’s song in the form of a lullaby, encouraging children and listeners to think about how small the world really is and what that means for how connected we are to each other.
