Cathy Applegate

Biography

Originally from Melbourne, Cathy has lived in Darwin since the early 1980s where there is a vibrant music scene. She is a composer, pianist and cellist; she plays with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and in her own ensemble, The Ad Hoc Ensemble. Her compositions are eclectic in style and include solo works, ensemble, choral and orchestral works. Her music has been performed in Australia and internationally.

Her most recent major work is a ballet in one act, The Brolga and the Star; it was premiered in Darwin in 2016 with international ballet stars in the principal roles and a pit orchestra.

She has representation with The Australian Music Centre.
