In this episode you’ll hear
Composer: Connor D’Netto
Website: www.connordnetto.com
interviewed by: Sascha Kelly
This conversation was recorded on the 8th of June, 2016, sitting at Connor’s dining room table next to his piano in Brisbane, Australia. We were surrounded by music, sheets of paper and books. It was a beautiful, sunny, perfect Queensland day.
Show Notes
“I work… don’t do this if you are doing uni or assignments, but I work really well, last minute, close up to a deadline. And it’s terrible, and it’s really bad for uni… but I seem to be really good at it.”
Connor D’Netto is doing really well for a young composer, and after speaking to him, it’s not hard to understand why. He’s careful with his words, and I can imagine that he takes the same approach with his composition. Connor has enjoyed some notable development opportunities and prizes (with the MSO Cybec program, and the Chamber Music Australia’s Australian New Works Award). However, he’s is also embracing all the aspects of a portfolio career that is encouraged with young musicians. His ensemble, The Argo Collective, is the model of what makes new classical music exciting – it’s immersive and collaborative, and you can tell that Connor is passionate about what the future holds. At the time of speaking, he was working on his commission for the MSO, but that premiered in January 2017.
